The town was established in the early nineteenth century by a man called John Parkinson who had a dream to plant forests in the area and construct a town.

It is often considered as one of the most attractive villages in the county and has an abundance of imposing pine forests and gardens. Due to its popularity in the world of up market tourism, it has plenty of quality hotels and guest houses.

The town is also home to a couple of golf courses and a number of attractions including the Jubilee Park and the Cottage Museum. Situated in the middle of the Lincolnshire countryside, it is now difficult to get to and has good road connections.

A number of annual events are also has towns such as the Woodhall Spa Country Show which is hosted on the seventeenth of May. Several other events also take place every year. The town also offers plenty of attractions and served as an ideal place to base oneself in one exploring the local countryside.

Another area of significance is the parish of Kirkstead which merged with the rest of the town in the 1980s. This area was built up around an abbey that was eventually destroyed in 1537. Historically, Kirkstead was a tiny and isolated hamlet, eventually growing insignificance for coming of the Lincoln to Boston railway line. The coming of the trains eventually meant the end of Kirkstead’s isolation and it eventually grew, becoming one with Woodhall Spa.
